Rival Teams Feel Hawks Likely To Trade Cam Reddish

Jan 8, 2022 9:13 AM

The Atlanta Hawks are widely expected to be active at the trade deadline. Hawks general manager Travis Schlenk all but confirmed that recently, when discussing his team's disappointing season. Schlenk said he "wouldn't be doing my job" if he wasn't active in trade discussions.

One of the main players the Hawks are expected to shop is Cameron Reddish. There is a belief around the NBA that Atlanta is more likely to trade Reddish than to sign him to a contract extension. Reddish is eligible to sign an extension in the summer of 2022. That deal would start with the 2023-24 season.

The Hawks have become an increasingly expensive team in recent years. Atlanta has signed free agents Bogdan Bogdanovic and Danilo Gallinari. In addition, the Hawks have signed long-term extensions with Trae Young, John Collins, Clint Capela and Kevin Huerter.

All Quiet On Bradley Beal Trade Front

Jan 8, 2022 9:05 AM

For the first time in years, things are quiet on the Bradley Beal trade front. So much so, that Beal's name isn't even coming up in rumors.

Beal is widely expected to opt out of contract following the 2021-22 season. He'll then be eligible for a contract up to five-years and over $241 million.

In recent years, several teams have sought a trade for Beal. The Washington Wizards have hung on to their franchise player, while Beal has said he has no desire to leave the only team he's ever played for.

Knicks Have Not Called Sixers About Ben Simmons

Jan 8, 2022 8:41 AM

The New York Knicks have not called the Philadelphia 76ers to discuss a Ben Simmons trade. New York has held internal discussions about trading for Simmons but have yet to take things further.

The Knicks have remained patient in free agency and trades since Leon Rose took over the front office. They've avoided the high-priced, splashy additions that have turned out poorly for the franchise in the past.

New York is expected to active on the trade market, but any moves may be around the edges. The Knicks have all their own first round picks going forward, as well as extra picks from the Charlotte Hornets and Dallas Mavericks coming in future years.

Jazz Considered Trading Joe Ingles In Offseason

Jan 7, 2022 2:30 PM

The Utah Jazz entertained the possibility of trading Joe Ingles during the offseason, but decided they "couldn't stomach the culture hit of sending him away," sources tell Marc Stein of Substack.

Tim MacMahon had a similar report on The Hoop Collective podcast this week.

It is unclear who the Jazz were targeting in a trade of Ingles. Ingles has a traceable $13 million expiring contract.

The Jazz are in need of an improved point of attack defensive option.

Hawks Could Emerge In Ben Simmons Trade Talks With 76ers

Jan 7, 2022 2:25 PM

The Atlanta Hawks could emerge as a suitor for a trade with the Philadelphia 76ers for Ben Simmons, a source told Marc Stein of Substack.

The Hawks reached the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021, but have been a relative disappointment this season. Atlanta, in particular, has struggled on defense.

Travis Schlenk has openly questioned his decision to bring back Atlanta's same core this season, which could be a signal his interest in a trade.

While the Hawks don't have an established star they're willing to trade that would match what the 76ers have looked for, they could aggregate assets for a multi-team trades construction.

Travis Schlenk: Maybe It Wasn't Such A Great Idea To Bring Everybody Back

Jan 7, 2022 12:21 PM

One month before the 2022 NBA trade deadline, Travis Schlenk had a candid interview about the state of the Atlanta Hawks.

The Hawks made the decision to largely retain the roster that reached the 2021 Eastern Conference Finals, which Schlenk is now openly questioning.

“Maybe it wasn’t such a great idea to bring everybody back, that’s on me," said Schlenk. "We have a few weeks here at the trade deadline and that’s what I need to figure out...it’s my responsibility to put a product on the floor that can win. Right now I’m questioning whether or not I have done that.”

The Hawks have struggled on defense this season, while also finding it difficult to generate offense when Trae Young sits.

“Again, ultimately this all falls on me,” added Schlenk. “So we’ve got to take a long look at this and see if this group is the group we saw last year in the second half of the season of if it’s the group we’re seeing this year. And that’s what we have to determine and we have to make adjustments off those. Obviously, you can tell I’m a little frustrated.”

Lakers Looking To Trade Kent Bazemore, DeAndre Jordan To Open Roster Spots

Jan 6, 2022 8:37 AM

The Los Angeles Lakers appear to be focused on opening roster spots, as they try to retool their roster around LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook. After trading Rajon Rondo to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a salary-clearing, roster-opening move, the Lakers aren't done.

LA is apparently talking to other teams about taking on Kent Bazemore and DeAndre Jordan. Both players have fallen out of the Lakers rotation, making them available for trades. It appears Los Angeles would like the flexibility of open roster spots at the trade deadline and buyout season.

Both Bazemore and Jordan have started at times for the Lakers this season, but in recent weeks have seen their roles lessened. Frank Vogel has prioritized playing lineups that are smaller and more versatile, while the team waits for Anthony Davis to return from his knee injury.

Kings Won't Make Any Player Untouchable In Trade Talks

Jan 5, 2022 12:36 PM

Vivek Ranadive has given Monte McNair the authority to make any move necessary for the Sacramento Kings to return to the playoffs, sources tell Sam Amick of The Athletic.

The Kings have a 16-23 record, but remain in contention for the play-in due to the Western Conference having a down year outside the top-4.

The Kings would prefer to keep building around De'Aaron Fox and Tyrese Haliburton, but no player is considered off the table in potential talks.

Ben Simmons remains a target for the Kings, but sources say the Philadelphia 76ers continue to ask for a truly elite player in return such as Damian Lillard or Bradley Beal.

Lakers 'Covertly' Explored Trade Of Russell Westbrook

Jan 5, 2022 12:29 PM

The Los Angeles Lakers have "showed some covert interest" in pursuing a Russell Westbrook trade with rival teams, sources tell Sam Amick of The Athletic.

A trade of Westbrook is considered extremely unlikely before the Feb. 15th trade deadline.

There seems to be some recognition within the Lakers that their trade for Westbrook hasn't been as successful as they had hoped.

Westbrook has a $47 million player option for the 22-23 season.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have acquired Miye Oni and a 2028 second round pick from the Utah Jazz. Oni was on a partially guaranteed deal.

The Thunder will waive Oni and open up a roster spot. Oklahoma City will waive Gabriel Deck to create a roster spot.

The Jazz will save money in terms of salary and luxury tax while also opening a roster spot.
