Klay Thompson Announces He'll Return On Sunday

Jan 8, 2022 5:18 PM

Klay Thompson took to Instagram to announce he'll return to the Golden State Warriors on Sunday against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Thompson has been out for 941 days since tearing his ACL in the 2019 NBA Finals.

Earlier in the day on Saturday, Steve Kerr jokingly said Thompson "forgot" to tell Kerr if he'd be available. Kerr encouraged the media to "keep your phone ready".

Kerr did confirm that Thompson will start when he plays, but with "less responsibility and fewer minutes".

Knicks Have Not Called Sixers About Ben Simmons

Jan 8, 2022 8:41 AM

The New York Knicks have not called the Philadelphia 76ers to discuss a Ben Simmons trade. New York has held internal discussions about trading for Simmons but have yet to take things further.

The Knicks have remained patient in free agency and trades since Leon Rose took over the front office. They've avoided the high-priced, splashy additions that have turned out poorly for the franchise in the past.

New York is expected to active on the trade market, but any moves may be around the edges. The Knicks have all their own first round picks going forward, as well as extra picks from the Charlotte Hornets and Dallas Mavericks coming in future years.

Speculation That Market Size Matters To Donovan Mitchell

Jan 8, 2022 8:55 AM

Donovan Mitchell has become one of the NBA's brightest stars, despite playing in one of the league's smallest markets. But there is growing speculation around the league that market size might matter to Mitchell.

In the first round of All-Star voting returns, Mitchell was seventh among Western Conference guards. That's seen as a signifier that Mitchell isn't getting the attention he should, due to the market he plays in.

The Jazz have done several things to keep Mitchell happy. This includes accounting for Mitchell's feelings on roster moves and other franchise decisions.

Mitchell is in the first year of a five-year contract, maximum contract extension. He can opt out via a player option after the fourth season and become a free agent in 2025.

All Quiet On Bradley Beal Trade Front

Jan 8, 2022 9:05 AM

For the first time in years, things are quiet on the Bradley Beal trade front. So much so, that Beal's name isn't even coming up in rumors.

Beal is widely expected to opt out of contract following the 2021-22 season. He'll then be eligible for a contract up to five-years and over $241 million.

In recent years, several teams have sought a trade for Beal. The Washington Wizards have hung on to their franchise player, while Beal has said he has no desire to leave the only team he's ever played for.

Rival Teams Feel Hawks Likely To Trade Cam Reddish

Jan 8, 2022 9:13 AM

The Atlanta Hawks are widely expected to be active at the trade deadline. Hawks general manager Travis Schlenk all but confirmed that recently, when discussing his team's disappointing season. Schlenk said he "wouldn't be doing my job" if he wasn't active in trade discussions.

One of the main players the Hawks are expected to shop is Cameron Reddish. There is a belief around the NBA that Atlanta is more likely to trade Reddish than to sign him to a contract extension. Reddish is eligible to sign an extension in the summer of 2022. That deal would start with the 2023-24 season.

The Hawks have become an increasingly expensive team in recent years. Atlanta has signed free agents Bogdan Bogdanovic and Danilo Gallinari. In addition, the Hawks have signed long-term extensions with Trae Young, John Collins, Clint Capela and Kevin Huerter.

Mavericks Signing Theo Pinson To Two-Way Contract

Jan 8, 2022 4:15 PM

The Dallas Mavericks are signing wing Theo Pinson to a Two-Way contract. Pinson is completing a second 10-day hardship contract with Dallas in the coming days.

While with the Mavs, Pinson has played in 10 games. He's averaged 2.5 points per game. Pinson has previously been with the Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks on Two-Way deals.

Dallas opened a Two-Way spot when they waived Eugene Omoruyi. Omoruyi suffered a right big toe injury in mid-December. With Omoruyi expected to be out for four-to-six months following surgery, the Mavs waived him to open the roster spot.
